Watersports in Brittany
“from the source to the shore” A favourable environment
In terms of nautical assets, Brittany benefits from some considerable trump cards: 2,700km of coastline, rivers and lakes situated in some exceptional landscapes, ideal climate conditions, a regular supply of wind, customs inherited from a deep rooted culture, and areas of sheltered water that allow the taking up of a sport in a safe environment.
The many activities
Sailing schools (dingy sailing, catamaran sailing, windsurfing), cruise, surfing, sand-yachting, kite-surfing, diving centres, sea or river canoe-kayak, rowing, working boat sailing, watersport and outdoor sport centres – all these facilities assure you an outstanding training.
At four years old, the youngest children will be able to uncover the riches of the maritime environment thanks to Jardins des Mers (Sea Playgrounds) and to Clubs Moussaillons (Sea Scout Clubs) while the grown-ups learn or improve their skills in the different watersport centres – Points Passion Plage (Beach Sport Centres), Points Kayak Mer (Sea Canoe-kayak Centres), Points Canoe Nature (River Canoeing) and nautical excursions.
Established Networks
The governing bodies and regional committees for each sporting discipline have wanted to organise themselves into a network where quality is the watch word: not only the quality of the welcome, but also the quality of management (professional training for supervisory staff), quality of equipment (equipment fit for purpose, safety equipment), quality educational content …
Managers insist particularly on respecting the environment and so organise training days to highlight users’ understanding of the sea in terms of the sea life and the underwater forna …
These awareness activities are for the most delivered when the practice of watersports is not possible. |
